The Palwal Civil Hospital has received a new electric fridge chamber for its mortuary, which had been non-functional for seven months due to a breakdown of the old chamber.

Civil Surgeon Dr Jai Bhagwan Jatain said the new fridge chamber, which can hold up to four bodies at a time, was installed and made operational on Saturday. The installation was made possible through the support of Dr Kuldeep Singh, Haryana Director General of Health Services (General), who had been informed about the hospital's long-standing problem.

The cost of replacing the old machinery was approximately Rs 4 lakh. This new facility would improve the process of preserving bodies for postmortem, which had previously been stored on ice slabs in the open — a practice that was not only unhygienic but also against health regulations.

The hospital conducts four to five postmortem examinations daily and with the new chamber in place, the problem of body preservation is expected to improve.
