Palliative Care Teaching Programme held
A five-day capacity-building Palliative Care Teaching Programme was held at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, here from November 26 to 30. It was conducted by the faculty of the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at the GMCH in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, and the Department of Onco-Anaesthesia and Palliative Medicine, Dr BR Ambedkar Institute-Rotary Cancer Hospital (IRCH), AIIMS, New Delhi.
The teaching programme was inaugurated by Prof AK Attri, Director Principal, GMCH-32, and he emphasised the importance of palliative care at the grassroot level in today’s healthcare system. The welcome address was delivered by Prof Sanjeev Palta, head of department, anaesthesia, and intensive care.
The GMCH-32 is part of these 10 hospitals chosen to promote palliative care. Furthermore, the hospital has invited 40 doctors and nurses from 10 hospitals of the tricity, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana to participate in this five-day teaching programme on palliative care.
