Pall of gloom descends on Mohi village as underage driving claims two lives
Pall of gloom descended on the region as two teenagers of Mohi village in Ludhiana district lost lives in a road mishap. Though the reason behind the tragedy is yet to be ascertained, but preliminary investigations revealed that the motorcycles, which the victims were driving, had hit a tractor trolley from behind due to poor visibility.
The deceased were identified as Harsimran Singh Garry (16) and Navdeep Singh (15) of Mohi, both students of a nearby private school.
Inconsolable parents of the deceased cursed the moments when they allowed their wards to use their bikes for performing domestic chores early in the morning.
Gurcharan Singh, investigating officer at Sudhar Police station, said no case had been registered as the families of the deceased had declined to demand any action in the matter.
They said the tragedy occurred due to negligence of the deceased and nobody was responsible for the accident.
The police said inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC had been initiated and the bodies would be handed over to the aggrieved families for performing last rites.
Besides leaving the families shattered, the tragedy has pointed out the necessity of continuation of earlier campaigns to sensitize all stakeholders about causes and risks involved in underage driving.
