Palampur MC takes initiative to empower students
The Municipal Corporation (MC) of Palampur has initiated free coaching classes for Class 5 students aspiring to clear the Navodaya Vidyalaya entrance exam. This initiative aims to bridge the educational gap and provide equal opportunities to students from government and private schools within the municipal limits.
A recent mock test organised by the MC attracted 150 students, helping assess their strengths and weaknesses. Following this, 105 students expressed interest in regular coaching classes, prompting the establishment of five dedicated centers across the region. The programme is supported by motivated teachers from the Primary Wing of the Education Department, who have volunteered their time and expertise.
Community involvement has been key to the programme’s success. The MC leveraged social media to appeal for volunteers, leading to citizens stepping forward to contribute. At the DAV School coaching center, volunteer Smt. Shailja Rana has taken the lead, while Sandeep Kumari, Centre Head Teacher at GPS Holta Tanda, provides personalized attention to 15 students. Similarly, Devender Kumar, heading the GPS Rani Sidhpur center, commutes 15 kilometers daily to ensure uninterrupted sessions.
All classes are conducted using smart boards provided by the state government, making the sessions engaging and interactive. This technology-driven approach enhances the learning experience, keeping students motivated.
Inspired by the programme’s success, the MC plans to introduce similar coaching for Sainik School entrance exams, further expanding its educational support for Palampur’s youth.
Ashish Sharma, Commissioner of the Palampur MC, said: “This initiative not only boosts academic performance but also strengthens the community’s commitment to education.” The programme is expected to inspire students to strive for excellence, leaving a lasting impact on their academic journey. The Municipal Corporation of Palampur’s visionary effort sets a commendable example of community-driven educational empowerment.
