The Palampur Municipal Corporation organised a function to highlight the importance of waste management and sanitation yesterday. The event featured a variety of activities, showcasing the talent and creativity of local students and recognising the invaluable contributions of sanitation workers. Chief Parliamentary Secretary Ashish Butail was the chief guest of the event while Palampur Mayor Gopal Naag presided over it.

The highlights of the event included a "waste to wealth" competition, which encouraged schoolchildren to transform waste materials into innovative and useful products. Young minds demonstrated their ingenuity and problem-solving skills by creating unique items from discarded materials. The winning entries were awarded prizes and recognised for their contribution to a cleaner and greener Palampur.

The function also included a colourful display of cultural activities by students from local schools and colleges. Dance performances, musical acts, and skits showcased the rich cultural heritage of the region while promoting environmental awareness.

The Municipal Corporation had organised several awareness programmes on waste management in the past. It had also taken up various infrastructure development projects to improve sanitation and waste management in the city.

“The Municipal Corporation is committed to making Palampur a clean and green city. The corporation is also working towards making Palampur a garbage-free city by 2025. It is collecting garbage from door to door every day and over 100 workers are engaged in this task,” said Ashish Sharma, Municipal commissioner.
