For the last three consecutive days the Pakistan army has been targeting Indian Army’s forward locations and civil areas in Poonch district.

Indian troops, manning the Line of Control and the fence, have retaliated the Pakistan Army’s unprovoked fire and shelling with mortars strongly and effectively.

On Saturday both the armies exchanged firing with small arms and shelling with mortars in the Mankot sector in Mendhar tehsil, while on Sunday the Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked fire in Shahpur and Qasba sectors.

Today at about 12.15 pm Pakistan resorted to firing and mortar shelling on forward posts and villages along the LoC in Shahpur sector.

“At about 12.15 pm Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation along the LoC in Shahpur sector in Poonch district. Indian Army has retaliated befittingly,” said Lt-Col Davender Anand, PRO, Defence.

No report of any damage or injury has been reported during these three days.

Meanwhile, soldiers deployed along the LoC in Balakot sector in Mendhar tehsil apprehended a 20-year-old resident of PoK while attempting to enter the Indian territory on Sunday night.

Fariyad Ali is a resident of Nikiyal and he is in the custody of the Army.
