Pak drone carrying narcotics shot down near IB in Jammu
A Pakistani drone carrying nearly half a kg of narcotic substance was seized by the Border Security Force near the International Border in Jammu, officials said on Sunday.
The incident happed just a day after the BSF said the drone activity from Pakistan has decreased along the International Border in Jammu region.
The incident took place on Saturday evening when the BSF personnel intercepted a Pakistani quadcopter and shot it down at the Chinaz Border Outpost area in the Arnia sector. The Unmanned Aerial vehicle (UAV) was recovered from an agricultural field along with a package of narcotics.
A BSF spokesperson said, “On December 14 at about 8.10 pm, a smuggling attempt was foiled by the alert troops of BSF deployed in Arnia sector of Jammu, wherein they intercepted the Pakistani drone and recovered 495 grams of narcotic substance.”
Inspector General of BSF, Jammu DK Boora had on Friday stated that the drone activity from Pakistan has substantially reduced after the deployment of anti-drone system along the Jammu border. “The anti-drone system along IB has been upgraded due to which the drone activity from other side of the border has decreased,” Boora had said.
He said that apart from deployment of manpower, the technical surveillance is present on the entire border across Jammu region and it is being further expanded to other places in the country.
The BSF has technology that can detect an incoming UAV and alert the troops after which it can be shot and brought down.
