The procurement of paddy began in more than 13 mandis across the district today. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Komal Mittal inaugurated the process at Hoshiarpur Dana Mandi and reviewed the facilities there. She said smooth procurement of paddy would start in all markets across the district Tuesday onwards.

The DC said out of the total 65 mandis in the district, paddy procurement had begun today at Hoshiarpur, Nasrala, Phuglana, Mahilpur, Paddi Sura Singh, Bhangala, Harsa Mansar, Kaulpur, Mukeria, Pandori, Dasuya, Nowshehra and Pandherkal, among other important mandis.

She said drinking water, shade and other essential facilities had been ensured in the markets for the convenience of farmers. Apart from managing the procurement process in the mandis, the DC also ensured that all facilities were running in a smooth and timely manner.

She urged farmers to bring only the paddy that had the specified moisture content to the markets for sale and complete the ‘wadi’ work with a combine within the specified time period.

Referring to the orders issued earlier, for paddy harvesting in the district, she said there was a complete ban on harvesting with combine machines from 7.00 pm to 10.00 am.
