Paddy arrival in Sangrur mandis around 20% less than last year
The paddy arrival at Sangrur grain markets and purchase centres till November 15 this year has been around 20 per cent less than that during the last year.
This year, 11,52,077 metric tonne (MT) paddy has arrived till November 15, while the arrival was 14,34,945 MT during the corresponding period last year. In 2023, total 16,03,616 MT paddy had arrived in the grain markets and purchase centres in the district.
Around 1,83,165 MT procured paddy had not been lifted till November 15 evening in the district. Around 96,149 MT paddy was yet to be lifted by Pungrain, 46,776 MT by Markfed, 28,766 MT by Punsup and 11,474 MT by the Warehousing Corporation.
Pungrain has reportedly procured 4,87,916 MT paddy till November 15, followed by Markfed (3,08,035 MT), Punsup (2,20,924 MT) and Warehousing Corporation (93,170 MT).
Arhtiya Pardeep Singla said the low arrival of paddy could be attributed to over 10 per cent reduction in crop yield. High moisture content could be another key factor as the farmers were bringing their produce late to the market due to that reason, he added.
