Over 44% voting in Chandigarh Club poll, result by noon today
A minor scuffle broke out between members during the Chandigarh Club elections here today.
Out of 7,441, 3,292 votes were polled. Among the voters were 164 women, 1,157 senior citizens and about 1,971 general category members. However, many senior citizens could not vote due to long queues and parking issues.
Counting of votes will begin at 9 am tomorrow and the results will be out by noon.
Naresh Chaudhary, Sunil Khanna and Ranmeet Singh Chahal are in the race for the post of president, while Anurag Aggarwal, Anurag Chopra and Karan Nanda are vying for the post of vice-president.
Twenty candidates are in the fray for eight executive member posts. The scuffle, which started with heated arguments between the polling agents of the contesting members, ended with abuses and threats. Former Mayor Ravinder Pali and advocate Karan Nanda along with Anurag Chopra, brother of another lawyer, clashed with each other during polling. The election officer and the returning officer tried to control the situation, but security personnel had to intervene.
No written complaint was submitted to the police.
