Ludhiana, August 26

A 21-day ‘Orientation Course-cum-Induction Training Programme’, organised by the Department of Extension Education and Communication Management, College of Community Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), concluded here today. As many as 23 newly-recruited faculty members from different departments, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, Regional Research Stations, Farm Advisory Service Centres and University Seed Farms of PAU attended the course. During the induction training, participants visited 10 Krishi Vigyan Kendras, three Regional Research Stations, six Farm Advisory Service Centres and three Fruit Research Stations across the state. During these visits, the participants interacted with outstation faculty and were acquainted with region specific crops and seed production besides their needs, challenges and strengths.

Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, congratulated the participants on the successful completion of the course. He hoped that all the participants would implement the lessons from the course in their professional and personal life to effectively render their services as a teacher, researcher and extension personnel. Dr Ritu Mittal Gupta, Course Director, said that sessions were conducted by experts from different departments of the PAU, retired faculty and experts from other organisations. The course was divided into different sections like teaching, research, extension and human resource development, she told. Lectures on formulating instructional objectives, designing instructional framework, planning and selecting evaluation techniques were delivered to orient the participants regarding teaching, she added.

Dr Mandeep Sharma, Assistant Professor, said that interactive sessions on identification and prioritisation of research areas besides writing winning research proposals were conducted. Practical sessions on rapport building with the farming community, technology dissemination techniques, use of print and mass media, etc, were also held. Besides, participants were made aware of administrative rules, policies and service rules, she said.
