Opposition criticises AAP for delayed wages to Anganwadi workers
The Congress and BJP have criticised the AAP government for failing to pay Anganwadi workers their wages for two months. Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Devender Yadav condemned this delay, stating it is a serious issue given the already meagre earnings of these workers.
“Despite grand announcements from the Atishi government claiming to support the poor, Anganwadi workers have not received their wages, which is unacceptable,” Yadav said. He urged the Lieutenant Governor to expedite pending payments and highlighted the disparity between the government’s promises and its actions.
Yadav recalled a previous wage increase following a 2022 strike, where monthly wages were raised to Rs 12,720 for Anganwadi workers and Rs 6,810 for helpers. “Now, they are defaulting even on these amounts, exposing the AAP’s double standards,” he added.
BJP MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri also condemned the AAP expressing concern for the 21,000 Anganwadi workers. He emphasised their Rs 12,720 salary is far below the minimum wage of Rs 18,066 for unskilled workers in Delhi, demanding accountability from the Chief Minister.
