A team of the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department captured four wolves, including one of Thursday, under its “Operation Bhediya”, in the past two days in Bahraich district, UP.
People have been living in a state of fear as a pack of wolves killed eight persons — seven children and a woman — in the past 45 days in the district. The UP Government has launched the “Operation Bhediya” to capture the pack of wolves on the prowl in Mehsi tehsil in Bahraich.
However, two more wolves are still on the run. The captured wolves will be sent to a zoo. An official said they had deployed 16 teams to capture the wolves.
“We used firecrackers and burnt elephant dung to ward off wolves from straying into human settlements. Drones were used to capture their images. Sometimes, we used to get their location through drones, but it was difficult to venture out at night. Forest officials, along with the police, were deployed in the village to nab the wolves,” a forest official told The Tribune.
