On tenth day, doctors protest at Jantar Mantar

On the 10th day of their protest against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, resident doctors from Delhi gathered at Jantar Mantar on Wednesday, demanding justice for the victim and advocating safer workplaces for medical professionals across the country.
Doctors from major hospitals, including AIIMS, Lady Hardinge Medical College and Maulana Azad Medical College, and private practitioners joined the demonstration. The protest aimed to highlight the growing risks faced by healthcare workers and the urgent need for systemic change.
Dr Aditi, one of the protesting doctors, said, “Shauk nahi majboori hai, ye hadtaal zaroori hai”. Echoing her sentiments, another doctor, Tanya, added, “We need laws for doctors, not just committees.”
In a unique gesture, resident doctors from AIIMS offered free OPD services to passersby at Jantar Mantar during the protest, which was well-received by the public.
The doctors raised slogans — “Give justice to RG Kar” and “We want justice” — while holding banners and placards to voice their demands. A skit performed by young doctors from the University College of Medical Sciences underscored the critical issue of safety for doctors at their workplaces.
Meanwhile, the women's wing of the Aam Aadmi Party held a protest outside Rajghat demanding justice for the Kolkata victim.
