The district police, led by SSP Gagan Ajit Singh, observed the Police Commemoration Day here on Monday.

Floral tribute was paid to martyrs of the police and paramilitary forces who laid down their lives in the line of duty during the dark days of terrorism.

Police Martyrs' Day is observed in memory of the Indian police team ambushed by Chinese troops in Ladakh region on October 21, 1959. Speakers including the SSP, Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division) Roopa Dhaliwal and SP (H) Swaranjit Kaur also recalled the ultimate sacrifice of ITBP and CRPF jawans during the ambush.

The SSP said the youngest district of the state carried a legacy of its 10 martyrs who walked the extra mile to thwart the nefarious designs of antisocial elements to destabilise law and order.

“Though the pain and agony of losing our father in a terror act, while he was paying obeisance at a village gurdwara, is unforgettable, we appreciate the honour accorded to him on this day by top-ranking government personnel,” he said.
