After PM Narendra Modi’s remarks at the Sonepat rally on Wednesday, where he alleged that the Congress looted Haryana and handed the state over to “dalal” and “damaad,” the son-in-law of Sonia Gandhi, Robert Vadra, challenged the BJP to produce proof of any wrongdoing by him.

Issuing a statement, Vadra said, “I was amazed at the PM’s speech during the campaigning for the Haryana elections. He mentioned my name again. His government was there (in Haryana) for 10 years.

Whether through several RTIs (applications filed under the Right to Information Act) or other methods, they have employed various tactics to level baseless allegations against me. Nothing has emerged against us in our business or any land transactions conducted by us.”

He added, “I am surprised that whenever he goes to rallies, he uses my name wrongly, mentioning ‘damaads’ and ‘dalals.’ I am surprised he is the PM; the PM’s post should be dedicated to the nation’s progress.”

Vadra pointed out that in the last 10 years, nothing has come out against him. The RTIs revealed no land registered in his company’s name in Haryana, he added.

“To hide his shortcomings, the PM uses my name by saying that everything went to ‘damaads,’” he said.

“I openly challenge the BJP to prove that I own any land in Haryana or that I have engaged in any wrongdoing. They have utilised the ED (Enforcement Directorate) and the Income Tax (IT) department. We have received several notices. They created the Dhingra Commission, but nothing wrong has emerged against me. Neither have they made allegations of any wrongdoing by us public,” he added.

Vadra stated, “Whether we have a government anywhere, I don’t use its influence in my business.”
