Former Chief Minister and National Conference vice-president on Wednesday filed his nomination papers from the Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal Assembly seat.

Abdullah, accompanied by senior leaders of the party and his sons, filed the papers before the returning officer at the Mini-Secretariat here. He reached the Mini-Secretariat sitting atop a vehicle, surrounded by a huge number of enthusiastic supporters.

BJP trying to make Independents win in Valley to form govt, says ex-CM

Omar Abdullah blamed the BJP for supporting “independent candidates” to form the government in J&K with their support.

“The BJP is trying its best to make Independent candidates win on as many seats as possible in the Kashmir Valley in order to get into an alliance with them to form the government,” he said while responding to a query about reports that jailed cleric Sarjan Ahmad Wagay is filing his nomination from the Ganderbal Assembly constituency as an Independent against him.

My honour in your hands: Omar appeals to voters

Omar Abdullah removed his cap on Wednesday and appealed to people with folded hands to elect him from Ganderbal. “Today, I want to say only one thing, “my cap, my turban (dignity) and my honour is in your hands,” said Omar in an emotional appeal. “Take care of my turban. Give me one single change. With folded hands, I am requesting the people of Ganderbal to give me one opportunity to serve you. I will represent you…”
