With Urban Local Bodies poll expected soon, the Punjab Colonisers and Property Dealers’ Association in a letter to CM Bhagwant Mann has flagged recently issued instructions related to exemption of no-objection certificate (NOC) for getting water and electricity connections in illegal colonies.

The union pointed out there was no logic of leaving out plots above 500 sq yds from the NOC exemption. “There are different sizes of plots in illegal colonies. Giving civic amenities to those with smaller size plots and leaving others out does not make sense,” said Gurvinder Singh Lamba, head of the association. They said though the government had amended certain sections of the PAPRA, it didn’t extend the cut-off date from March 18, 2018 till July 31, 2024, in the Punjab Laws (Special Provisions for Regularisation of Unauthorised Colonies) Act, 2018.
