Nursing college pupils protest police inaction in suicide case
Students under the leadership of the Punjab Students Union staged a protest in front of Gurseva Nursing College, demanding action in the case of a suicide by a college student a few days ago.
Students protested against the management of the college, saying that despite a case being registered against the accused who allegedly forced a student Ashiq Khan to die by suicide, no arrest had been made so far.
They said as a result of this, students under the Punjab Students Union staged a protest today in front of the college.
Punjab Students Union state finance secretary Baljit Dharamkot, district leader Raju Barnala, college student leaders Hadi Hussain Shaik and Imtiyaz Khan said the officials responsible for forcing the college student to die by suicide, including college director Davinder Kaur Rai and vice-principal Kamaldeep Kaur had not been arrested, nor had the students’ demands been accepted yet, due to which the students were sitting on dharna every day.
They said on the contrary, the management was trying to spoil the atmosphere by sending mischievous messages. The student leaders alleged the management was threatening the students and collecting unjustified fees and fines.
The fine for arriving late, bad food at hostel, not being given admission even after counselling done and fee charged, fee collected from SC/ST students at the time of admission in violation of the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme, etc. were among the charges made against the college administration.
Student leaders said if these demands were not met in tomorrow’s meeting, then a struggle will be launched, for which the district administration will be responsible. Slogans were raised against the management of the college.
Ashwini Kumar, Raftak Husein, Shoib, Yakub, Rohit, Lovepreet Kaur, Jaspreet Kaur, Amandeep Kaur, Priya, Amrit Kaur, Harsimranpreet Kaur among others were present.
