The National Security Guard (NSG) conducted a large-scale anti-terrorism mock drill, “Gandiv-VI”, in Dharamsala, recently. The exercise took place at prominent locations including the Dharamsala Cricket Stadium, Namgyal Monastery and sensitive areas like McLeodganj. According to an NSG press release, the operation simulated various terrorist attack scenarios to provide a realistic experience for the responders.

The primary goal of Gandiv-VI was to anticipate potential terrorist threats and rehearse the procedures required to activate an integrated terrorism crisis management mechanism. The exercise involved local administration, police, and central security forces as first responders, while the NSG acted as the final responding unit. The drill underscored the importance of cooperation and coordination among various agencies for swift emergency responses.

The focus of the drill was on anti-terrorism, hostage rescue, anti-IED (Improvised Explosive Device) operations, and the post-kidnapping rescue of high-ranking individuals. Special strategies were developed for each scenario, ensuring they could be effectively applied in real-life situations. The NSG emphasised that these exercises not only enhance preparedness but also enable responders to make quicker, more informed decisions during crises.
