NSDL reaches Rs 500L cr demat assets milestone
National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL), one of the largest securities depositories globally announced on Friday that it has reached a historic milestone of Rs 500 lakh crore i.e., US $ 6 Trillion in value of assets held in custody. This achievement marks a rapid increase in NSDL’s asset base.
It took 18 years to reach Rs 100 lakh crore in June 2014, another 6 years to reach Rs 200 lakh crore in November 2020 and within a short span of 4 years to reach Rs 500 lakh crore in September 2024.
On achieving this landmark, S. Gopalan, Interim MD of NSDL said, “ We are very happy and proud to have reached this significant milestone of reaching US $ 6 Trillion in value of assets held in custody. We thank investors, market participants, regulators and other stakeholders on this historic occasion.”
The market share of NSDL in value of demat assets is 86%. NSDL demat accounts are located in more than 99.3 per cent of pin codes in the country with 63,000+ Service centres - covering every state & union territory. NSDL has played a key role in transforming the Indian securities market by facilitating holding and transfer of securities in dematerialised form.
