Now, slum-dwellers to get proprietary rights in Patiala

The Patiala MC recently held a general body meeting during which it adopted the Punjab Management and Transfer of Municipal Properties Act and the Punjab Slum Dwellers Proprietary Act.
MC officials said more than 300-odd households living on government land in houses of a maximum size of 30 sq yard will benefit from the decision of adoption of the Punjab Slum Dwellers Proprietary Act.
The MC has also decided to provide ownership of land to people running shops in municipal buildings on rent since years.
The MC held an online meeting of the general body in which 30 matters pertaining to the development and decisions regarding the city were cleared. Officials said they had also adopted the Punjab solid waste management, cleanliness and sanitation bylaws after which the corporation would be able to impose fine on people as per the Act. MC Commissioner Poonamdeep Kaur said now people would be able to apply under the Punjab Management and Transfer of Municipal Properties Act.
The MC also notified Punjab municipal registration, proper control of stray animals and compensation to victims of animal attack as per the bylaws with changes as required. The civic body cleared the agenda of declaring certain areas in the city as commercial pockets. Steps regarding the same will be initiated after approval by the state government.
The corporation also cleared the matter of conversion of certain land area of the Leela Bhawan town planning scheme into plots. — TNS
