Now, leaders of organisations getting trained on cruise vessels

Soundproof auditoriums used to impart training to elected leaders of international service organisations like Rotary International are fast being replaced by decks of high-seas expedition cruise vessels.

During the past few years, leaders of various units of these organisations from this part of Malwa have experienced and appreciated the shifting trend of traditional indigenous training on the high seas.

Contrary to the earlier trend when these elected leaders used to commute between their residences and routine training venues for orientation programmes, they have now started opting for long educational-cum-recreational programmes to prepare for their designated posts.

Mohammad Asrar, zonal coordinator of Rotary International District, said almost all assistant-governors-elect had completed preparations for joining a four-day high-seas learning programme during a cruise from Goa to Lakshadweep scheduled to commence on Wednesday.

District Governor Elect (DGE) of Rotary International District Bhupesh Mehta said that the training programme had been arranged keeping in view the ascending standard of professionalism among potential leaders who aim to represent their localities at the international level in the future.

“Besides focusing our attention on imparting training in seven focus areas of service, adopted globally by the Rotary International, we have tried to provide an atmosphere to our elected leaders away from routine life,” said Mehta, claiming that the blending of educational and recreational elements would rejuvenate them for performing their duties ahead.

Chief adviser of Rotary International District Amjad Ali said the decision to organise cruise expedition training had been taken on the basis of feedback received from those elected leaders who had earlier attended such programmes.

“However, keeping in view the inability of some elected leaders to remain away from their premises for a long duration, we organised a pre-training programme at Sirsa for all leaders so that aspirants from parts of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan could imbibe basics of the leadership programme,” said Ali.

Meanwhile, members of various units of Rotary Club Ahmedgarh and Malerkotla bid adieu to AG (elect) Surinder Pal Sofat and Zonal Coordinator Mohammad Asrar who would be joining their counterparts on the cruise.
