Bathinda, December 18
Members of the Nursing Association, Bathinda unit, carried out a protest march and banged tin containers here today. Staff nurses are on strike for the past week, demanding pay parity and status of nursing officers.
Staff nurses gathered at the Civil Hospital and later carried out a march by holding black flags and beating tin containers.
Swaranjit Kaur, president of the association, said, “In today’s protest, we banged containers to wake up the state government from its slumber so that it can take note of our demands and fulfil them. Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal keeps saying that government’s coffers are empty but imposing cuts on our allowances is not going to fill these coffers. We demand that the government must revive our allowances at the earliest. We also demand that it must remove anomalies in pay parity and provide us grade pay benefits as per the revised pay scale in 2006.”
