In a major breakthrough, the Jalandhar Rural Police arrested Amritpal Singh, alias Amba, a notorious criminal involved in multiple heinous cases, including drug trafficking, armed robbery and attempted murder.

The arrest was made during a special operation in Phillaur under the NDPS Act case. The operation was led by Inspector Sanjiv Kapur and DSP Sarwan Singh Bal as part of a district-wide campaign to eliminate drug trafficking and criminal activities.

Speaking to the media, SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh stated that Amritpal had been evading arrest for more than five years by frequently changing his identity and location. His involvement in drug smuggling, cross-firing incidents and other violent crimes posed a grave threat to public safety.

Amritpal of Uppal Khalsa had 15 criminal cases registered against him. These included two cases of attempted murder, one case of armed robbery, two cases of criminal conspiracy and preparation for dacoity, two theft cases, one case of drug trafficking under the NDPS Act, one fake currency case and one case under the Prison Act. He had been declared a proclaimed offender in five cases, including a 2017 NDPS Act case registered at Phillaur, a cross-firing case at Nurmahal and other serious offences involving armed dacoity and theft.

“Amritpal’s arrest is a significant achievement in dismantling the organised crime and eliminating drug trafficking networks in the district,” Khakh said.

The accused is under police remand and interrogation is on to uncover his associates and dismantle the broader criminal network linked to him.

Khakh warned that strict action would continue against those engaged in illegal activities, reiterating that no one involved in crime could escape the law.
