Notorious criminal held in 11-month-old murder attempt case
The Amritsar Rural Police have arrested a notorious criminal 11 months after they shot at a youth at Ramdiwali Hindua village falling under the Kathunangal police station here.
He was identified as Nirvail Singh, alias Nehla, of Varyam Nangal village. The police said he has as many as 22 criminal cases, including of attempt to murder, snatching, robbery and under the Arms Act, registered against him at various police stations in Amritsar city, Amritsar rural, Batala and Gurdaspur.
Khushbu Sharma, SHO, Kathunangal police station, said he along with his brother Nirmal Singh, alias Dehla, had shot at a youth, identified as Jaspal Singh, a resident of Ramdiwali Hindua village. He was getting his bike repaired at that time when duo shot at him. He had a narrow escape in the incident and suffered a bullet injury in the leg.
She said his brother Nirmal Singh, alias Dehla, was already arrested in the case in May this year while Nirvail Singh was evading arrest. She said he was arrested yesterday after a tip-off. She said the accused also had links with notorious gangsters.
“He came out on bail in 2022 and immediately after coming out he started committing robberies,” she said. He was produced in a court and brought on police remand for further investigations.
His brother Dehla was also wanted in around 20 criminal cases of similar nature.
