The government on Monday condemned opposition's letter to Lok Sabha speaker about absence of leaders of opposition among the list of speakers at the Constitution Day event tomorrow and said even prime minister Narendra Modi was not speaking.
"This is not a political programme. This is an event to honour the Constitution and Constitution makers. The opposition's move to jump the gun without waiting to know the details of the event is condemnable. In tomorrow's event even prime minister is not speaking," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said after a joint Opposition letter to Speaker Om Birla demanding that leaders of opposition should also be among speakers.
Rijiju said only President, Vice President and Lok Sabha speaker will speak tomorrow and said leaders of opposition will be seated on the dais as per programme plan and schedule.
Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi of the Congress are leaders of opposition in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha respectively.
