Normal water supply to Shimla residents in a day or two

Shimla, December 21
City residents can expect normal water supply in a day or two. The water supply to Shimla city was partially disrupted after the Giri Water Scheme pipes got damaged due to a sizeable landslide on Saturday. The city’s peripheral areas have been affected by this supply disruption.
“We have been trying to repair the damaged pipes since Saturday. A huge mass of land slid down and damaged the pipes,” said Rajesh Kashyap, Additional General Manager of Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam Limited (SJPNL).
“We have managed to repair the left line, which had suffered less damage. The right pipe suffered greater damage and hence it’s taking time to repair. We are confident that the task will be completed by tomorrow,” he added.
To make up for the shortfall, the SJPNL is drawing more water from the Gumma Water Scheme. “Despite the disruption, we are lifting around 30 million litres of water every day. And the city’s demand at the moment is not high owing to the lack of demand from the tourism industry,” said Kashyap.
