Toilet shut for months, locals inconvenienced
Visitors and shopkeepers are facing inconvenience as the only public toilet in Phase 3B2 market is non-functional for months now. Severe leakage and foul smell emanating from it has forced the owner of an adjacent showroom to keep his shop shut for a while.
The visitors have to walk up to a distance to the next block to relieve themselves. It is even worse for women who have to face embarrassment of requesting nearby private facilities.
Phase 3B2 showroom owner Manjit Singh said, “There are always issues with this toilet.
Either it is blocked or leaking and at times it is under repair. In other words, the public toilet of the Municipal Corporation is of no use to public.” On the days the toilet is functional it is locked around 8-9 pm, shopkeepers said.
Residents here also criticised the Mohali Municipal Corporation over its poor upkeep.
“Peepal trees are growing on it and wild growth can seen on the roof of it. This facility is going to collapse anyway. The Municipal Corporation will not wake up before it comes down,” said Gurdev Singh Rakhra, a booth owner.
Mohali Municipal Corporation Commissioner T Benith said, “The MC has prepared an estimate for the renovation of the toilet. Some problems are persisting here for past sometime. We are aware of the issues. The toilet will be made functional soon.”
