Nomination process for Gharuan nagar panchayat polls ends

Banur, Nayagaon, Kharar bypoll to be held simultaneously

The nomination process for elections to all 11 wards of the Gharuan nagar panchayat and by-elections to the Ward No. 16 of the Kharar MC, Ward No. 16 of the Nayagaon MC and Ward No. 6 of the Banur MC came to a close on Friday.

A total of 64 nomination have been received and scrutiny of the papers has begun. The nominations found eligible can be withdrawn between 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday, while polling will be held from 7am to 4 pm on December 21.

Mohali district election observer Amrit Singh, Director Tourism, Punjab, held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain and other officers to ensure free, fair and transparent elections to the local bodies.

The DC also issued the contact number and email to reach out in case of any violation: +91-8968345747 and observermcmohali@gmail.com.

“The elections would be conducted by the use of Electronic Voting Machines and the results would be announced on the same. The entire process will be recorded to ensure transparency,” the DC said.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Deepak Pareek, while apprising the election observer of the pre-poll and poll day security arrangements, said the polling process would also be monitored minutely with ample security measures.
