Activists of several social organisations vowed to launch a campaign to create communal harmony during Diwali Milan, an event organised by Muslim leaders of the region.

Malerkotla legislator Dr Zamil Ur Rehman was the chief guest during the function chaired by Mohammad Khalid, president, Malerkotla Rotary Club.

The MLA appreciated that prominent Muslim families associated with Rotary Club, Malerkotla, had organised an event to celebrate the largest festival of Hindus.

“The gesture shown by the organisers will strengthen social ties among members of our communities. Radicalisation and communal hatred has eclipsed development of several countries, including India,” said Rehman.

Condemning stray incidents of hatred fueled by some miscreants, MLA Rehman said nobody would be allowed to disrupt the hard earned peace in the region.
