No end to potable water supply woes of Sujanpur residents
Many wards of Sujanpur, a town on the banks of the Beas, are facing serious water shortage from the past over three months. Residents of Brahampuri Mohalla of the town said their repeated requests to officials of the Irrigation and Public Health (IPH) Department to solve the water shortage issue had fallen on deaf ears.
A letter signed by over 45 residents was given to the IPH department, requesting the restoration of the regular water supply to the affected areas of the town.

Kushal Kumar, a resident of Ward No. 8, said Brahampuri Mohalla was the worst-affected area of the town as it was facing serious water crisis. He said the supply either remained suspended and when water was supplied, the pressure remained low and was insufficient to meet daily requirements of residents.
Arti, another resident of the town, said the department had issued many new connections after increasing the water supply capacity of old lines. Some people had installed booster pumps on supply lines which aggravated the problem of water shortage, she said.
Rajesh Dhiman, executive engineer, IPH Department, said the issue of poor water supply was brought to his notice. He said a team of the department had seen some booster pumps connected with water supply lines. He said the team had removed some pumps and work was still in progress in this connection.
He said it was also decided to lay another supply line in the area to meet water requirements of residents. There was no shortage of water at the source, he said, while adding that the capacity of the pump house was good enough to supply sufficient water to the town.
