NIT team among top 19 in NASA Space Apps Challenge

A team of innovative B Tech students from the Department of Physics and Photonics Science at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Hamirpur, has achieved a feat by securing a position among the top 19 teams globally in the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2024, the world’s largest public hackathon.

NIT Director HM Suryawanshi said the project was chosen from over 10,000 submissions across 150 countries. “This recognition was awarded to only 19 teams worldwide. Additionally, the team has secured a spot in the top 60 teams for the prestigious People’s Choice Award, which was granted to just three teams globally, including those from Spain and Brazil,” he said.

The team comprises Girish Gaurav Sharma, Aarushi Saini, Ajay Mokta and Shabd Patel. Prof Suryawanshi highlighted that the NASA Space Apps Challenge is an international event organised in collaboration with leading space agencies, including ESA (European Space Agency), ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency), CNES (Centre National d''Études Spatiales) and CSA (Canadian Space Agency). “This year’s challenge showcased the creativity and innovation of participants in addressing pressing global issues through technology,” he added.

NIT Registrar Dr Archana Nanoty and Head of the Department Dr Rajesh Sharma congratulated the team on their extraordinary success and extended their best wishes for future endeavours.
