NIT outlines achievements at textile event
The Department of Textile Technology of Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology participated in an event organised by the Textile Association of India at Ludhiana. The event was graced by HB Patel, Member of Parliament from Gujarat, as the chief guest along with leading textile industrialists of Ludhiana.
Prof Monica Sikka, Head of the Department, along with Prof Vinay Midha and Prof AK Choudhary, gave a presentation that underscored key achievements of the department, advanced research facilities, and its focus on new product development and sustainability-related projects. Prof Sikka proudly announced that the department has recently been granted a Rs 20 crore grant under the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. This significant funding is set to enhance research capabilities and accelerate innovation in technical textiles.
Prof Sikka also highlighted the department’s new initiatives to strengthen industry-academia collaboration, including an M.Tech (part-time) programme for working professionals. “It also provides customised training and consultancy services to address specific industry needs, joint research and development opportunities focusing on emerging technologies and sustainability along with internships and live projects that enable students to tackle real-world challenges. Additionally, workshops and seminars are co-hosted to promote knowledge exchange and drive industrial advancements,” she told the gathering there.
Prof Monica Sikka invited the Ludhiana textile industry to leverage its expertise and resources for R&D, innovation and skill development.
Prof BK Kanaujia, Director, NIT Jalandhar, congratulated the department on its achievements and conveyed his good wishes for future collaborations between the industry and academia.
