The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Hamirpur, has bagged the silver medal in the All India NIT Staff and Faculty Cricket Championship held at Silchar in Assam. Congratulating the team on winning, Prof HM Suryavanshi said the victory had made the organisation proud. He added that the team should continue practising and try to win the trophy next year.

Team captain Surinder Soni and coach Anoop Kumar lauded the team’s performance as it had defeated the NIT-Andhra Pradesh by eight wickets in the quarterfinals and the NIT-Jalandhar in the semi-final.

He said the finals against the NIT-Srinagar was a close match. He added that after winning the toss, the NIT-Srinagar elected to bat first, scoring 138 runs. The NIT-Hamirpur team fell 23 runs short of the target and won the silver medal. The team had consistently performed well in the tournament and had emerged the winner at NIT Trichy last year, he added.
