Nishan-e-Sikhi takes up climate justice at COP29
A three-member delegation led by Baba Gurpreet Singh, representing Nishan-e-Sikhi Charitable Trust, Khadoor Sahib, participated in COP29, an international conference on climate change organised by the United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Baba Sewa Singh, Kaar Sewa sect head, Khadoor Sahib, and a nature lover is representing the Nishan-e-Sikhi Charitable Trust.
The delegation led by Baba Gurpreet Singh shared information about climate change and environment-related works at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. During this meet, they shared an exhibition booth with various organisations from across the world and also discussed mutual coordination, cooperation and training related to climate change and its impact, with special co-operation of Dr Jasdev Singh Rai of SHRG, London, so that a global alliance could be formed to tackle climate change and its impact.
Baba Gurpreet Singh highlighted the significance of environment conservation and climate justice during a side event at the COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. He drew inspiration from the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev, emphasising the importance of “Naam Japo, Kirat Karo, and Vand Chhako” and stressed the need for collective action, mutual cooperation and coordination among various stakeholders to address climate change.
During the event, Baba Gurpreet Singh also advocated climate justice emphasising the need for policies and their implementation at the grassroots level. He encouraged farmers to adopt natural farming practices and also addressed the various challenges they face in agriculture.
Besides Baba Gurpreet Singh, Subedar Balbir Singh and lecturer Jagroop Singh were the other members of the delegation. The trust has been actively involved in environmental conservation, biodiversity and natural farming since 1999.
COP29 held in Baku, Azerbaijan, brought together representatives from nearly 200 countries, including government and non-government organisations, global institutions, academic and research institutions, social and civic groups.
