The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today said it had filed a supplementary chargesheet against two accused in the Hizbul Mujahideen narco-terror case in a Special Court at Mohali.
The two accused are Jaswant Singh, alias Jassa, a resident of Gurdaspur, and Gursant Singh, alias Gora, a resident of Tarn Taran.
The supplementary chargesheet was filed under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 419 (cheating by personation), 471 (use as genuine forged document), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code; 8/21, 27A and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act; and Sections 17, 18 and 20 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Investigations revealed the two were involved in collection, distribution and sale of heroin smuggled from Pakistan besides channelling proceeds for furthering the activities of the terror outfit.
Accused Gursant Singh was a key member of the outfit and as a close associate of prime accused Iqbal Singh, alias Shera, responsible for safe movement of heroin and proceeds to various places/unknown persons.
The investigations also suggested he had purchased immoveable properties for use as hideouts and luxury cars for transport of drugs and proceeds.
Earlier, the NIA had fled chargesheet on October 20 against 10 persons. Of these, Hilal Ahmed Shergojri, Bikram Singh, Maninder Singh, Ranjit Singh, Jaswant Singh, Ranjit Singh and Gagandeep Singh had been arrested, while Iqbal Singh and Zafar Hussain Bhat were at large. Riyaz Ahmed Naikoo was killed.
The NIA took over the investigation on May 8 last year. The case was initially registered at the Sadar police station in Amritsar on April 25 following the arrest of Hilal Ahmed and recovery of Rs 29 lakh from his possession by the Punjab Police.
During investigation, it was revealed that Hilal, who had come to Amritsar to collect Rs 29 lakh, was a member of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and an aide of Naikoo, the then commander of the outfit in Kashmir. “Hilal’s arrest led to busting of a major narco-terror module involved in the smuggling and sale of heroin in India and channelling of proceeds to Pakistan through hawala and to terrorists based in Jammu and Kashmir,” the NIA said in the statement.
