New head of Nauni university soil science dept takes charge
Dr Uday Sharma today took charge as the head of the department of soil science and water management at Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni.
An alumnus of the university, Dr Sharma has a rich experience and expertise in the field. Beginning his career as an Assistant Scientist (Soils) at the Regional Horticultural Research Station in Mashobra, Dr Sharma focused on soil fertility and plant nutrition, particularly in apple cultivation. He served as a Scientist and programme coordinator at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chamba, from 2008 to 2012, before taking on various roles at the main campus and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kandaghat, Solan.
He set up soil-testing facilities at Mashobra and Kandaghat and a state-of-the-art Advanced Soil and Leaf Analysis Laboratory on the university’s main campus. Throughout his tenure, Dr Sharma has been involved in teaching, research and extension services, serving as principal investigator for seven externally funded projects and co-principal investigator for 10 others.
Dr Sharma outlined his priorities, emphasising a commitment to developing alternatives to chemical inputs that adversely affect soil health. He aims to promote resource conservation technologies for soil and water conservation, ensuring efficient management of these vital resources. Dr Sharma reassured farmers of his dedication to providing best services and consultation for soil and leaf analysis.
