New CBSE bi-annual exam policy: Students struggle to stay on course

The CBSE has decided to hold board exams of classes X and XII in two sets- November and March (tentative) which means half of the syllabus will come in November while other half in February-March. While many teachers feel that the students will be less burdened like this as the syllabus will be divided, students and few parents, on the other hand, believe that they will be under continuous stress for all these months.

Terming this as more “student-friendly”, Nanakana Sahib Public School Principal Harmit Kaur Waraich said it would be easy for students as the syllabus will be divided and so will be the marks. “We are happy with this system but there are students who are not taking this seriously. Otherwise, semester system is always good as compared to the annual system,” the Principal said.

Gunika, a student of Class XII who secured over 90 per cent marks, said students will have to study continuously for securing good marks.

“Unit tests will be over by October 15 and by second week of November, the Board exams are expected to begin. After about a month, the schools will hold practice tests and then again final Board exams. We cannot go out anywhere on a vacation and will have to be focused all the time,” she said.

Meanwhile, many parents said that their wards were yet to take the semester system seriously. “I keep on telling my son to take the first term seriously but since MCQs are coming in first term, he is taking it in a casual manner. The students too look confused after this pandemic,” said a parent.
