Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday responded to Opposition accusations of victim blaming in the case involving the death of an Ernst & Young employee, allegedly due to exploitative work conditions.
Opposition leaders, including Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, criticised the FM for her remarks, in which she said, “Whatever job you do, you should have the ability to handle pressure.” Chaturvedi, addressing Sitharaman, tweeted, “It was the toxic work culture and long hours that took her life.”
Responding to the criticism, Sitharaman clarified that she never named anyone in her comments about high-pressure jobs.
