Need to strengthen unity at the grassroots: CPI (M)
The 24th two-day state conference of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Punjab concluded in Jalandhar on Tuesday evening, with a firm commitment to expanding the party’s ideological and organizational influence at the grassroots level. Delegates from across Punjab pledged to strengthen the party’s reach and promote its core values.
Comrade Sukhwinder Singh Sekhon was unanimously re-elected as the state secretary for a third consecutive term. A 36-member state committee was also elected, reflecting the collective vision of the party. Sekhon expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and emphasized the importance of grassroots ideological education and organisational fortification.
Comrade Nilotpal Basu addressed global challenges posed by capitalism and imperialism. Basu called for renewed efforts to combat communal forces and strengthen unity at the grassroots, reaffirming that the red flag remains a symbol of hope for the working class.
The conference included discussions on a political and organizational report presented by Sekhon, with 34 delegates actively contributing to the debate. Key resolutions passed included demands for farmer and labourer loan waivers, legal guarantees for Minimum Support Prices (MSP), measures to combat drug abuse, environmental protection and the restoration of student union elections.
Senior leader Lehmber Singh Taggar made a notable contribution by donating Rs 3 lakh to the party. The conference also honoured past members, emphasising the lifelong dedication of communists to the party’s principles.
Delegates elected to represent Punjab at the upcoming CPI(M) Party Congress in Madurai included comrades Major Singh Bhikhiwind, Abdul Sattar and Harpreet Kaur Jhabal. Alternate delegates included comrades Baljit Singh Grewal and Dr Kanwaljit Kaur.
