Expressing concern over the pollution caused by industrial units by discharging polluted water into water bodies, Governor Gulab Chand Kataria today emphasised that only clean and natural water should flow into the rivers. He said polluted water also endangered the aquatic life and migratory birds that depended on rivers.

Kataria today visited the Sutlej-Beas confluence at Harike Pattan. He directed officials to implement robust measures to check the discharge of industrial waste into rivers.

Praising the scenic beauty of Harike, he said it had the potential to attract tourists from all over the world. He urged for the development of essential facilities for visitors to enhance their tourism experience. He also called for efforts to increase the annual arrival of migratory birds. The Governor also visited the Forest Department’s museum.

He also urged the Governor to invite members of village defence committees (VDCs) to the Raj Bhawan to have personal interaction with them to have a clear perspective on various issues.

Earlier, the Governor paid obeisance at the National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala. Later, he watched an exhibition kabaddi match between Fazilka and Ferozepur teams near the India-Pakistan joint checkpost, organised by the sector headquarters of the BSF. The Governor is on a four-day visit to the state’s border districts.
