A month after a groom was rejected for flunking a simple ‘maths test’, another marriage in Uttar Pradesh was called off at the last moment as the groom was unable to read a newspaper without his glasses on, earlier this week.
All was going well and the marriage was about to take place . The groom, all decked up, was about to reach the wedding hall with his ‘baraat’ when the bride and her family noticed the boy wearing spectacles the whole time.
The bride was not keen on marrying someone who had poor eyesight.
The women’s family then asked the groom to read a Hindi newspaper without his glasses on. The groom could not see without his glasses, and on knowing this, the bride refused to marry him, reported News18.com.
The incident was reported from Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh. According to the report,
‘Shagun’ was also performed before the wedding and a motorcycle was also gifted to the groom.
A police case was later registered by the bride’s family against the groom and his relatives and they also asked them to return the gifts including motorcycle.
When the boy’s side refused to return the gifts, an FIR was lodged at a police station in Auraiya Kotwali.
