Lucknow, March 8
Lucknow DC summoned
- The Chief Justice takes suo motu cognisance of the matter late Saturday night and summons Lucknow DC and DM on Sunday morning to explain under which laws hoardings had been put up.
- On Friday, the Lucknow administration had put up about 100 hoardings across the city with photographs, names and addresses of at least 28
anti-CAA protesters.
After disparaging remarks against the state government, the Allahabad High Court on Sunday afternoon completed the hearing and reserved its order until 2 pm on Monday in the case of the Uttar Pradesh Government putting up hoardings of reported anti-CAA protesters with their photos, names, and addresses across Lucknow.
After the hour-long hearing on Sunday afternoon that saw the Uttar Pradesh Government’s Advocate General Raghvendra Singh presenting his arguments and responding to the court’s questions, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Ramesh Sinha reserved their order for Monday.
Earlier in the day, the court termed as “highly unjust” the action of the state government of putting up the hoarding of the alleged anti-CAA protesters against whom Additional District Magistrates (ADMs) have passed recovery orders.
Snubbing the state government, the Chief Justice described the action as an “absolute encroachment on the personal liberty of the individuals.”
Late last night, the Chief Justice had taken suo motu cognisance of the matter and had summoned Lucknow Divisional Commissioner and District Magistrate to the court on Sunday morning to explain under which laws the hoardings had been put up in the first place.
