PM Modi, Mauritius PM to hold roadshow in poll-bound Gujarat
New Delhi, April 19
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Mauritian counterpart Pravind Kumar Jugnauth will lead a roadshow in Ahmedabad on Tuesday evening. This will be PM Modi’s third roadshow in poll-bound Gujarat in just over a month.
On Monday, Jugnauth held a roadshow of his own in Rajkot, Gujarat, where he will attend the foundation stone-laying ceremony of ‘WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine’ by PM Modi.
Modi’s joint roadshow with Jugnauth in Ahmedabad will begin in the evening after the two leaders arrive there after laying the foundation stone. At least 15,000 people are expected to greet both the prime ministers who will travel from the airport to Raj Bhavan, according to an official release.
The Mauritius PM will be accorded a grand welcome with 30 platforms having been erected at regular intervals on the 2-km roadshow route from the airport circle to the Indira Bridge where troupes will perform.
Last time too, two months before Gujarat went to the polls in 2017, PM Modi had held a joint roadshow with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in Ahmedabad and laid the foundation stone for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai high-speed train project with 80 per cent funding from Japan. The 8-km roadshow in an open-roof vehicle was held from the airport to Sabarmati Ashram.
But PM Modi’s biggest roadshow in Ahmedabad was with US President Donald Trump in 2020, weeks before the first national lockdown. Nearly one lakh people lined up along the 22-km route on February 24 from Sabarmati Ashram to the newly built cricket stadium named after Modi. Jugnauth’s Monday’s roadshow in Rajkot was comparably a modest 2 km interspersed by 25 stages on which artistes performed the Garba, Nasik Dhol and Kathak.
PM Modi held two roadshows on successive days last month after the BJP won elections to four state assemblies. Landing in Ahmedabad a day after the BJP won in UP, Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur, Modi held a 9 km roadshow on March 11 from Ahmedabad airport to the BJP’s Gujarat headquarters on the riverfront. He held a roadshow the next day as well. The 12-km roadshow was held between Dehgam town in Gandhinagar district and the Rashtriya Raksha University at Lavad village.
