Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday pitched for making Ayurveda system of medicines and practices a world phenomenon and advocated for a global summit in this regard.

He batted for harmonious blend of traditional and modern systems of health care and medicines.

He urged upon youth of the country to popularise Ayurved through various languages.

In his video conference address to the fourth Global Ayurveda Festival, Modi said the Ayurveda system is a holistic and integrated approach to health and consequent enhancement of longevity.

He said that this Indian ancient system is based on the vision of “Nirog” (malady free health) in its sweep, rather than the concept of mere treatment “Rog” (disease).

It is based on scientific principles which also takes care of preventive cure through universally accepted  behavioural precepts like chew well ones food, enjoy ones food, etc, he said.

“It is good for the humanity,” Modi said.

He said Ayurveda products enhances immunity. This realisation deepened during the heydays of corona pandemic. He said food and products turmeric and ginger came into focus for immunity to bear off the coronavirus.

The world too has started recognising the virtues of Ayurveda, and the participation of 25 countries in the festival was a testimony to it, he said.

He said the WHO has announced to set up a global centre for traditional system in India.

The UNO has decided to observe 2023 as International Millet Year.

Modi said India offers to the world “Wellness Tourism” which is premised on holistic treatment of illness of which Ayurveda is its main pillar.

He urged country’s academicians and scientists to enlarge their body of research on Ayurveda, as the current situation provides an opportunity to establish it at an international level.

He said the Union government has taken measures, including setting up Ayush Ministry.
