In a complete breach of the ongoing understanding on maintaining ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC), a Border Action Team (BAT) of the Pakistan army allowed and aided an infiltration bid in Keran sector of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

Pakistan asked to take back body

  • The infiltrator was identified as Mohd Shabbir Malik, a national of Pakistan
  • He carried an identity card and vaccination certificates issued by the Pakistan authorities
  • The Pakistan army has been asked to take back the body of the killed individual

The bid was foiled and a terrorist, later identified as Mohd Shabbir Malik, a Pakistani national, eliminated. He was equipped with weapons, ammunition and warlike stores. The incident site is located on the Pakistani side of the anti-infiltration obstacle system, kept under surveillance by the Indian Army to effectively counter any nefarious activity by infiltrators or Pakistani troops.

A statement by the Army said the armed intruder dressed in a Pathani suit and black jacket was detected moving from areas under the control of Pakistan army across the LoC around 3 am yesterday. Ambushes were laid along likely routes that could be adopted by the intruder and his movement was tracked till 4 pm. The ambush was sprung at the opportune moment and the infiltrator eliminated.

The surveillance of the area is in progress, said a Srinagar-based spokesperson of the Ministry of Defence.

The slain man’s identity card and vaccination certificates, issued by the Ministry of National Health Services Regulation and Coordination, Government of Pakistan, helped ascertain his identity. The belongings also included a photo of the infiltrator in army uniform bearing the name tab of Shabbir.

A communication has been made to the Pakistan army to take back the body of the slain terrorist.
