‘Most open economy’, PM rolls out red carpet for global companies

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today underscored that at a time the world is in crisis due to Covid-19, India is ready to play a leading role in global revival as it is one of the most open economies. It has talent and ability to reform and rejuvenate and is rolling out the red carpet for investors.

“In these times, it is natural to talk about revival. It is equally natural to link global revival and India. There is faith that the story of global revival will have India playing a leading role. I see this closely linked with the two factors… we are laying a red carpet for all global companies to come and establish their presence in India. Very few countries offer the kind of opportunities India does today. There are many possibilities and opportunities in various sunrise sectors in India,” the PM said inaugurating India Global Week through video conference. 

The three-day event is expected to be attended by some 5,000 participants from 30-odd countries. It is being showcased as a big international event on the theme “Be the revival: India and a better new world”.

“When India talks of ‘Revival’, it is: Revival with care, Revival with compassion, Revival which is sustainable —- both for the environment and the economy. Green shoot of economic recovery can already be seen,” he said.

India-EU meet on July 15

New Delhi: The European Union will hold a virtual meeting with India on July 15. Co-chaired by PM Modi and the European Council President, the summit will review India-EU cooperation covering political and security ties, trade and investment.

The PM said India was one of the most open economies in the world and invited all multinational companies to set up their business in India. Describing India as a land of many possibilities and opportunities, he said various reforms initiated in the agriculture sector provided for a very attractive investment opportunity for the global industry.

“The latest reforms are providing a boost to the MSME sector and would be complementing the big industry while new opportunities wait in the fields of defnce and space.”

He said the Covid-19 pandemic underscored that India’s pharma industry was an asset not just for the country but also for the world and was playing a leading role in reducing the cost of medicines, especially for developing countries.

Explaining the concept of Atmanirbhar Bharat, he said it was not about being self-contained or being closed to the world but about being self-sustaining and self-generating. “This India is refoming, performing and transforming. This is an India that offers new economic opportunities. This is an India that is adopting a human-centric and inclusive approach to development. India awaits you all,” he said. — TNS
