Dairy lucrative option to boost farm income: PM Modi
New Delhi, April 19
Dairy is emerging as a more lucrative option to boost farmers’ income, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said, dedicating a new dairy hub and potato processing plant at Diyodar in Banaskantha district of Gujarat to the nation.
“The development initiative will empower farmers and boost the rural economy. The Banas dairy has created a new economic force in the country. Here, we can experience how a cooperative movement can give strength to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign,” the Prime Minister said.
“The Banas dairy movement is helping farmers and cattle-rearing communities in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand. Dairy is emerging as a medium for increasing farmers’ income compared with traditional foodgrain, especially where landholdings are small,” he said.
The new dairy complex and potato processing plant at Diyodar, Banaskantha district, is built at a cost of more than Rs 600 crore.
The PM said the manner in which Banaskantha had made a mark in agriculture was commendable. “Farmers embraced new technologies, focused on water conservation and the results are for all to see,” he said.
