Murthal varsity hosts Sufi music night
The ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ (EBSB) club of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology (DCRUST), Murthal, hosted an evening of soulful Sufi melodies titled ‘Roohdaad-e-Mohabbat’. This musical event was held to celebrate the rich tapestry of India’s cultural heritage, beautifully aligning with the essence of the EBSB initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Dr Manoj Panwar, coordinator of the event and university coordinator for ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ scheme welcomed the dignitaries and audiences and shared a brief note on the EBSB scheme and various activities of the EBSB club.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Shree Prakash Singh graced the event as the chief guest and highlighted the significance of cultural initiatives under the EBSB scheme.
Professor Singh lauded the endeavour’s role in fostering unity across India’s diverse cultural landscape, emphasising the unique power of music and culture in bridging regional and linguistic divides.
Dean of Academic Affairs at Netaji Subhash University of Technology, Delhi, Sujata Senegar was the guest of honour. She emphasised how music transcended cultural and linguistic barriers, connecting diverse communities into a single, harmonious soul. “In a country as varied as India, music serves as a bridge that unites us, reminding us of our shared humanity,” she remarked.
The evening resonated with the profound and mystical vibes of sufi music, with captivating performances by members of the Goonj Musical Society. Some of the notable performances, including ‘Bina Mahi Kive’ by Mridul, ‘Ye Tune Kya Kiya’ by Bhargavi, ‘Akhiyan Udeek Diya’ by Khushi, ‘Kive Mukhde Ton’ by Arun, ‘Bol Kaffara’ by Rajni, ‘Saanson Ki Mala’ by Akshay and Vipul and last but not the least enthralling was ‘Kali Kali Zulfon’ by Dikshant. Each rendition, infused with passion and devotion, transported the audience into the mystical realms of Sufism, exploring themes of divine love and spiritual connection.
DCRUST alumni, Kunal, Ansh Sharma, and Vinayak, who were and are still associated with the Goonj Musical Society also performed during the event.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Singh commended the organisers and performing students for their dedication and hard work, noting that the event was a testament to the rich cultural heritage of India.
He also ensured his full support for organising such events in near future for overall development of the students and asked the faculty and student coordinators of the event to organise more of such events for making the university a vibrant place to foster positivity and relaxing environment. Senior faculty members and dignitaries along with students enjoyed the musical evening.
